Located about five miles northeast of downtown, White Rock Lake is a scenic 1,015-acre reservoir and park in Dallas, Texas. Originally a tree-lined valley used by Native American tribes for hunting, the area was flooded in 1911 to create a city reservoir.

From Reservoir to Recreation Hub

Between 1910 and 1914, Dallas constructed a dam and pump station to secure water supply . When a larger lake was built in 1929, ownership of White Rock Lake was transferred to the Parks Department. Rapid development followed, including Art Deco bathhouses, a boathouse, fish hatchery, and picnic pavilions—all largely built with help from the Civilian Conservation Corps in the 1930s.

Today, White Rock Lake attracts over one million visitors a year. It features:

• A 9.3-mile paved trail for walking, running, and biking
